From Cusco or the Sacred Valley, there is a 45 minute drive through beautiful mountains and farmlands to the town of Chinchero in order to visit the women’s weaving cooperative where we will watch a demonstration of local weavers who are using Inca techniques for dyeing fabric and for weaving traditional patterns. Here you will have time to browse the shop which sells Inca style purses, tablecloths, wall hangings, and many other colorful and exquisitely patterned artisanal goods. Then, we will visit Maras, a collection of salt mines that have been used since pre-Inca times to evaporate salt from an underground stream followed by a visit to Moray where will look down below to contemplate the concentric circles that made up an Incan agricultural laboratory. Hike down into the archaeological site with a private guided tour of the ruins that served as one of the main amphitheaters for the Incas where they performed rituals and ceremonies. Lunch will be at a restaurant in Urubamba.We’ll pick you up at 6:00am from your hotel in Arequipa and travel by touristic bus to Chivay, the capital of the Colca Canyon region. Machu Picchu-Sacred Valley Tour

We will leave Cusco at about 05.00 for the 4-hour bus ride to the Mollepata District. We will arrive approximately at 8.30 a.m. in Mollepata. Here we will have an excellent American breakfast. After the breakfast we drive 2 hours with an open truck reaching almost Soroypampa.

Here our horses and horsemen will be waiting for carrying our camping-equipment and food. We will pass the campsite of Soroypampa. After we will continue our walking to Salkantaypampa, where we will have our lunch.

You will be picked up by private driver at your hotel at 2 am. It will likely be cold so you have to dress very warmly with hat, gloves and warm coat. We will have pillows and blankets in the van so that you can try and continue resting on the way while we will drive 3 hours to the trail head where a hot breakfast will be prepared and served. After breakfast, we will start ascending from 4,300 meters (14.200 feet) towards our goal of 5,200 meters (16,200 feet). ….

Starting in Aguas calientes

We will pick you up from your hotel in Aguas Calientes and accompany you to the bus that will take us up to the entrance of Machu Picchu (about a 20 minute ride). From there, we will lead you on a 2 hour in depth guided tour of the site and will teach you all about the history of how and why the Incas chose to build this magical place. If you have tickets to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, your guide will accompany you on these climbs. If not, we can hike to the Sun Gate or the Inca bridge, two lesser visited places at the citadel. After the tour, we will take you back to the bus station and accompany you back to your hotel in Aguas Calientes.
