FIRST DAY

We’ll pick you up at 6:00am from your hotel in Arequipa and travel by bus to Chivay, the capital of the Colca Canyon region. Along the way we’ll stop at.
  • The Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve to see llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas.
  • Patahuasi for a cup of coca tea
  • The wetlands to see various migratory birds
  • The small village of Pulpera
  • Mollepunko to see rock art
  • The Callalli stone castles
  • Sibayo, a local Colca Valley community
  • The Tuti community

We’ll have a buffet lunch upon arrival in Chivay then check into your hostel. You then have the afternoon free to either rest, explore the city, or let me show you the local market.
Around 5:00pm we’ll head to the Calera hot springs where you’ll have about 2 hours relaxing in the thermal baths. Dinner is back in Chivay.

SECOND DAY

We’ll have an early, 5:30am, breakfast at the hotel before heading to Cruz del Condor. Along the way we’ll stop at the Altahuilque and Choquetico viewpoints to see the Colca Valley and some pre-Inca cemeteries. We’ll spend about an hour at Cruz del Condor before heading to the Tapay viewpoint where you’ll be able to see the small villages on the other side of the canyon. We’ll finish the drive around 10:20am in Cabandaconde where we’ll have a snack and prepare for the trek.

The first segment of the trek from Cabanaconde to Oasis de Sangalle at the bottom of Colca Canyon will take about 3 hours. Once in Sangalle you’ll have the rest of the afternoon to relax in the pool before dinner around 6 or 7pm.

NOTE: IF YOU WANT A LONGER HIKE, YOU CAN TAKE A LONGER WAY TO GET OTHER VILLAGE IN OTHERSIDE OF COLCA CANYON AND SPEND THE SECOND NIGHT IN ONES OF OUR LOCALS FAMILIES IN COSÑIRHUA OR TAPAY AND NEXT DAY WE CAN GO TO THE OASIS THE SANGALLE TO SPEND ANOTHER NIGHT THERE

THIRD DAY

Breakfast will be around 9:00am. You’ll have the morning free to swim, walk around, or try your hand at fishing in the river. After lunch we’ll cross the bridge to visit the other side of the canyon. Dinner will be around 5:00pm back in Oasis de Sangalle.

FOURTH DAY

You have two options for getting back to the top of the canyon. If you choose to hike back to the top you’ll need to be up around 4:15am. Otherwise, if you’d like to ride a mule you’ll have to be up around 6:00am. Either way, we’ll arrive in Cabanaconde around 9:00am for breakfast. After breakfast we’ll start the drive back to Arequipa. Along the way we’ll stop at the Maca community to see some eagles and the Yanque village with an optional small museum. We’ll arrive in Chivay around 1:00pm for a buffet lunch. After lunch we’ll continue the drive to Arequipa stopping at Patapampa, the highest point of the tour at 4910 m.s.l. where you can see the chain of volcanoes including Hualcahualca, Sabancalla, and Ampato. We’ll arrive back in Arequipa about 5:30pm.
